Sue Coffee, Artistic Director

Sue Coffee is the founding Artistic Director of Sound Circle, a women'sa cappella ensemble, and also founding Artistic Director of the100-voice Resonance Women's Chorus of Boulder. She directed the DenverGay Men's Chorus from 1999-2005. With Sound Circle and the Denver GayMen's Chorus, she has performed and collaborated with other GALA memberchoruses across the country; her ensembles are known for theirsupportive collaboration with composers, performers, and otherorganizations locally. Recent artistic projects have included SoundCircle: On BodiesÉ, a performance piece about bodies and body image,and performances of Jennifer BerezanŐs Praises for the World.Projects in development include Snap Out of It, a concert about fearand imagination; and a collaborative piece with SeattleŐs CaptainSmartypants about death and loss, to premiere in 2007. Sue received a2004 GALA Choruses Legacy Award in recognition of her contributions tothe gay and lesbian choral movement. She has served GALA Choruses onthe Board of Directors and numerous advisory committees and haspresented workshops at GALA Choruses events on topics includinglong-range artistic planning, mission and relevance, and musicalexcellence. She directed the women's chorus at the first Singers'Weekend in Toronto in 1997 and co-organized the Voices of Women concertat the 2004 Montreal Festival. In Colorado, Sue has received anAHAB/Neodata Artist Fellowship, a PFLAG Community Service Award, andthe 2004 Daily Camera Pacesetter Award for Arts and Entertainment.
